    Blog Update

    September 29, 2007

    Hello Mommies,

The last week has been ‘learn about blogging’ week!  I want my beautiful mommies to come to this site, in front of their computer, feel surrounded with a soothing beautiful background, an inspiring note, and all the information you need for your day at the bottom in the “business” section.

So my current challenge is to learn the language and skill to get that idea into a reality on this site.  For a little while, (time as determined by children) the site will be Continue reading →

    It’s good to be back!!

    September 25, 2007

    Hello Mommies,

I’ve been lost in cyberland for nearly a week.  And I owe a huge debt of gratitude to two people who fixed this up for me:

    Amvidian http://www.amvidian.com/

Ok - I have to share something.  I have IM’d Jordan here for a day or so, asking questions, and getting professional succinct answers.  So I owe him big time.  Then, I look up his site to link it here in case you ladies should ever need some programming assistance - (blogging IS really fun - and it even feels like I’m in the grown-up world.)  Would you believe it - my professional buddy here is 21!!!  I should have known- the really good geeks now a days are our children! lol  Anyway, had I written him off immediately due to his age, I would have missed some very courteous and professional help!  A lesson to moi - i need to loose some of that ageism.

Highly recommend: thumbs-up-clipart101.gifthumbs-up-clipart101.gifthumbs-up-clipart101.gif Continue reading →

    Rainy Days w/ Monkeys

    September 20, 2007

turn a Rainy Weekend into an event

BALLOONS!  (active play) A ball play area staged with soft stuffies & chairs around a smallish space, and filled with balloons.  How simple, and fun!  I’m afraid my cute little girls couldn’t keep them inside the space, which would have been more fun for mommy.  But they are easily cleaned up with a pin. :)

RICE RICE RICE (quiet play) A large under bed storage box filled a couple inches thick with rice, a couple measuring cups, scoops, and sandwich containers, and they’ll have hours of fun.  Place this under-bed box on the kitchen table over linoleum, or on a plastic table cloth for easy clean up.  And it’s completely safe for little ones to mouth.

BE A MONKEY  (snack) Slices of bananas smeared with peanut butter, add small currents or cut up raisins for my daughter’s favorite thing in the world - “appy thace”.

Another snack: sprinkled shredded cheese on rice crackers and melt in the microwave.

    EASY SUPPER: pancakes, & ssg.

    Lint Traps & Stroller Wheels

    September 13, 2007

It is a beautiful fall day here in southern British Columbia.  Cold and crisp in the morning when I walk my little girl to school.  And blues skys and hot temperatures in the afternoon.  The last load of laundry is out in the sunshine to dry.  You see, I have a perfectly reasonable explanation for the fuse in my dryer breaking this week.  This is how I like to see it:

I have a husband who’s a manual-reader, regularly does laundry, and I know he’s cleaning the lint trap all the time……. so I don’t have to.  That line of reasoning has worked very well for nearly two years.

And oh Mommies - let this be a warning to you - CLEAN YOUR LINT TRAPS after every load.  And thank God we had an over-heating fuse/breaker in our dryer.  It shut off instead of setting on fire.  So, while the neighbours can envy my environmentally friendly laundering, you all know the truth!

This afternoon, I’m taking my 3 year old to the doctor for a follow-up - everything should be fine.  And working on coordinating a new project - a Walking School Bus.  I confess, I’ve only read about it online, but it is such a great idea.  And I’m spurred on this year, as there is an apartment complex being constructed on the tiny Drive opposite the elementary school.  Those dump trucks consume the entire Drive, and there are little kids and oodles of parents transporting kids to and fro.  I hope that there will be some interest in this project from my neighbours.  Truthfully though, Mommies, I need some help picking up my daughter from school right in the middle of nap time!

Now, something to store away until you need it:

I did some tinkering on my stroller - changing the rear tires (that I accidentally drove over - but that’s another story).  Here’s what I learned on this project:

    * the model and serial numbers for most strollers are located on a sticker on the rear frame above the left wheel.  I’m working on a Babytrend stroller (2002), using parts from an older Graco Literider (2000).

    *  To remove the rear wheel:  pry off the hub cap(blue), little button cap (white), and washer (pink).   On the other stroller of mine (Babytrend) the washer and button cap are metal.  Stem to Cap - babytrend

What you are left with, is the axle stem.axle stem

    * To replace the wheel, I salvaged one from an older stroller (thus the well-loved appearance).

Replace in the reverse order - wheel, washer, button cap, hub-cap.  Be sure to place the wheel spoke-side toward the stroller (see below).  Turn the wheel a few times to make sure that it is positioned far enough away from the brakes to turn freely, and close enough so that they work.

    Who’s da Momma?

What a great club to belong to!
